Plant Manager
This role encompasses managing production across multiple shifts, optimizing efficiency, ensuring quality, and fostering a safe working environment for our CNC, fabrication, graphics, paint, ACM, assembly, crafting and maintenance departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing management, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proven ability to lead and develop teams in a dynamic, custom fabrication environment.
Key Objectives and Accountabilities
- Production Readiness: Ensure all products are ready prior to the scheduled site delivery.
- Rework: Maintain high standards to avoid rework and sub-standard products.
- Efficiency Optimization: Continuously plan ahead and improve processes to maximize productivity and reduce waste.
- Team Development: Mentor and develop staff to foster a high performing, empowered and accountable team.
- Safety Leadership: Maintain a safe work environment and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Cost Management: Operate within budget and seek efficiency in resource utilization.
- Customer Satisfaction: Deliver high-quality products that meet design and client expectations.
Operational Leadership
- Lead and manage approximately 100+ employees across two shifts.
- Plan, assign, and oversee daily operations to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
- Manage staffing levels, including hiring, training, and disciplinary actions, in conjunction with HR.
- Ensure compliance with company policies.
Production & Process Management
- Prevent rework through thorough job reviews and workflow planning.
- Optimize production flow and minimize material handling.
- Monitor production output, analyze performance data, and implement corrective actions to ensure targets are met.
- Implement and monitor production schedules and output.
- Organize continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen).
Quality Assurance
- Maintain and enforce quality standards to meet/exceed customer expectations.
- Implement robust quality control processes to ensure all products meet design specifications and customer expectations.
- Address all major quality issues with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with regulations. Collaborate with HR to ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance through regular safety inspections, conduct incident investigations, and implement preventative measures.
Equipment & Facility Management
- Oversee maintenance and operation of plant equipment (CNC, welding, etc.). Ensure facility and equipment are organized and maintained for optimal performance.
Budget & Inventory Control
- Manage operational budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities. Collaborate with Materials and Procurement to ensure inventory and supply continuity.
Strategic Contribution
- Recommend capital investments and stay updated on industry advancements.
- Work collaboratively with internal resources to continuously develop and improve processes that accurately identify client expectations and ensure costs are contained and within budget expectations.
- Provide support to engineering with regard to estimation of production time, required materials and equipment.
- Active participant on the senior management team to support core values, vision and strategy.
Skills, Knowledge, Education & Experience
- Post secondary degree or diploma in related field (Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, or certificate and equivalent working experience).
- 7+ years related experience, minimum 3 years in a leadership role.
- Excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Proven experience in a custom fabrication or sign manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with CNC equipment, welding processes, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly operations.
- Proficiency in manufacturing software, ERP/MRP systems (Epicor preferred), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and quality management systems.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to low level isocyanates, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the plant floor for extended periods.
- May require occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
