Job Description

Job Description: Purchaser

Company: RIC Power Corporation (A Panelmatic Company)

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

About RIC Power Corporation:

Based in Burnaby, BC, RIC Power Corporation is a leading Canadian manufacturer specializing in custom-designed electrical switchgear. We engineer and build high-quality, reliable power distribution and control solutions for a diverse range of industrial and commercial clients. Our commitment to technical excellence and customer satisfaction drives our success, and we are looking for a dedicated Purchaser to join our team and contribute to our growth.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Purchaser to manage the procurement of components, raw materials, and supplies essential for our  custom switchgear manufacturing operations.

This role is central to our engineer-to-order (ETO) environment and demands rigorous use of our ERP/MRP system to ensure operational efficiency and accurate inventory management. The successful candidate will be a skilled negotiator, responsible for sourcing high-quality electrical components and materials, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery to meet complex project deadlines.

You will be a critical link in our supply chain, directly impacting our ability to deliver best-in-class switchgear to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement Management: Manage the end-to-end procurement process, from reviewing requisitions and creating purchase orders to verifying order acknowledgements for accuracy in pricing, quantity, and delivery dates.
  • ERP/MRP System Integrity: Maintain meticulous and accurate data within our ERP/MRP system, including purchase orders, supplier information, lead times, and pricing. Leverage the system to monitor inventory levels and drive purchasing decisions.
  • Supplier Relations & Negotiation: Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with new and existing suppliers. Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and terms to achieve the best value for the company.
  • Inventory Control: Proactively monitor inventory levels to support the production schedule, reordering stock to ensure on-time delivery while maximizing inventory turns and minimizing carrying costs.
  • Logistics & Expediting: Monitor shipments to ensure on-time arrival. Proactively expedite or de-expedite deliveries as required by production changes, tracing shipments and resolving any delivery issues that arise.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Engineering, Project Management, and Production teams to provide accurate material costs and lead times for customer quotations, new projects, and change orders.
  • Strategic Sourcing: Identify and recommend alternative materials or suppliers to drive cost savings, improve product quality, or reduce lead times.
  • Administrative & Reporting: Perform day-to-day administrative tasks, including compiling reports, maintaining purchasing records, and processing paperwork in accordance with company policies.
  • Inventory Audits: Assist in cycle counting programs and/or annual physical inventory activities as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in purchasing, procurement, or materials management.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and hands-on experience with an ERP/MRP system is essential.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Preferred Qualifications (Assets):

  • Experience in the electrical manufacturing, switchgear, or a similar Engineer-to-Order (ETO) industry is highly desirable.
  • Professional designation (or working towards) in supply chain, such as SCMP or APICS/ASCM.
  • Experience with cross-border (Canada/US) logistics and customs.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, and vision care.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and statutory holidays.
  • A supportive, collaborative, and team-oriented environment.

If this opportunity sounds like the right fit for you, we encourage you to apply.
