Job Description

Ecowaste Industries Ltd.

Founded in 1971, Ecowaste Industries Ltd. (Ecowaste) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Montrose Industries Ltd. (Montrose), a privately held company with deep roots in the City of Richmond. Over the past five decades, Ecowaste has evolved into a recognized leader in innovative recycling and sustainable waste management solutions, delivering long-term environmental benefits for both the local community and the broader province of British Columbia.

The company owns approximately 480 acres of land at the foot of No. 6 Road in Richmond, 330 acres of which are designated for landfill operations. Most recently, the southern portion of the landfill was closed and Montrose developed the Richmond Industrial Centre on that land. The remaining 150 acres located in the northern section continue to house Ecowaste’s recycling and waste services operations. With a focus on construction and demolition (C&D) waste diversion and recycling, Ecowaste has played an instrumental role in supporting the region’s builders, contractors, and municipal needs for over five decades. The Richmond operations are supported by a transfer station in New Westminster and a growing pipeline of strategic capital projects.

Ecowaste is deeply embedded in the fabric of the communities it serves. Beyond environmental services, Ecowaste embraces its role in addressing broader regional challenges across Richmond and Metro Vancouver. By developing infrastructure that meets local needs and providing essential services, Ecowaste fosters lasting partnerships with stakeholders, businesses, and residents. This strong community orientation is core to the company’s identity and ongoing success.

General Manager of Recycling and Waste Services

Ecowaste’s next General Manager of Recycling and Waste Services (GM) will step into a mission-critical role as the organization grows its service offerings and prepares for future strategic capital investments. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the GM will lead a committed, long-tenured team and be accountable for delivering on annual operating plans, regulatory compliance and environmental controls, and team development. The role carries significant influence in shaping operational strategy and informing major decisions, particularly as they relate to capital planning, infrastructure investments, and cross-functional project execution.

This position calls for experience in the waste management sector, particularly in landfill, recycling, or large-scale transfer station operations, with a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of the circular economy. Familiarity with family-owned businesses and capital-intensive projects is also desirable. Above all, the next GM will be an inclusive and trusted leader who demonstrates integrity, listens actively, acts decisively, and strikes a thoughtful balance between environmental impact and financial performance. They will be a visible leader supporting staff in the yard, representing Ecowaste with government and community partners, and ensuring operational decisions are aligned with broader business goals.
